·Wajax 2020·

Six weeks to go

Dear competitors, judges, officials, subscribers and all other interested parties

Wajax 2020 is now only weeks away and so it is time for us to give you all the January update.

Preparations are coming along nicely here in Omarama with entries maxed out at 25 teams from all across Otago/Southland. It’s great to see teams from places that have never entered before, as well as those that have been running it for years. Accommodation in town is 99% booked out so, if you have not secured somewhere, it will pay to get in quick. Let us know if you’re having trouble and we can try and help get you in touch with an empty house for the weekend.

One of the main reasons for the January update is to let you all know what kind of track we’ll be running on the day so you can be as prepared as possible. Well, we can now tell you that there will be a straight track with a wide, shallow water source.

The venue for Saturday is the Countrytime Hotel, where the prize-giving dinner will also be held. As they are a licensed premises, there can be no alcohol taken past the hotel garden, this includes track side. For those that need a drink during the day, we ask that anything consumed on site is purchased from the hotel bar, to comply with their license. The hotel treats the brigade well and has been hugely supportive of Wajax over the years so we hope that everyone understands and respects this request.

Some of the newer teams have asked if there any videos floating around to help them train. Are there any teams out there that would be happy to film a couple of their runs to give a helping hand? Just share the video to the Wajax 2020 Facebook page and we can make sure everyone sees it.

With the huge interest we’ve received, the prize-giving dinner is nearing capacity and it’s vital we know who else wants to come that hasn’t yet registered. If you know of anyone involved in Wajax past or present, please ask them to get in touch so that we can book them a seat, or just forward on this email with the link to register.

Finally, it may have been mentioned that this is the 50th running of the Otago/Southland Wajax competition… If you have any photos or bits of history from over the years, please send them through to us on Facebook or by emailing wajax2020@outlook.com so that everyone can enjoy them.

We'll send out another update with final details closer to the time but, if you need any information beforehand, please get in touch.

See you all in March

12th April 2019

Hi All

Good news! Registration is now open for the Wajax competition next year. The competition is coming home to Omarama, 50 years after it was first born.

The decision was made at the last competition to put a cap the number of teams running at 25 to make sure we can fit everything in. There were 15 teams running this year and we've had interest from another 6 on top of that already so get in quick, it's first in best dressed.

Registration is now open but your spot isn't guaranteed until we've received a $100 non-refundable bond. Once you register, we'll get back to you within 7 days to confirm receipt and provide payment details. Please make sure to let us know how many supporters you'll be bringing, as well as teams, so that we can organise food etc. Click here to head to the registration page.

Entry fee this year is $250/4 man team & $50/extra person (5th man and supporters). That price includes lunch and prize-giving dinner on the Saturday.

If there's any old ex-wajaxers out there that you know might want to come along for the prize-giving dinner then please direct them to the website, there's an entry form there to make sure we save a place for them too!

And finally... Keep on spreading the word! We want as many teams there as possible, whether they competed at the dawn of time or are giving it a go for the first time. Everyone is welcome.

Look forward to seeing you all next year
